How do I get my e-book onto my reading device?

Download your book as an EPUB file, then follow the steps for your device below. Kindle and Tolino each have their own transfer process. On an iPhone, iPad or many computers, you can open the file with a reading app.

Download the EPUB file first

  1. Open your order or the Downloads section in your customer account. Select the EPUB file for the book you want. For pre-orders, the download appears once the book is released.
  2. Remember where the file was saved. It is usually in Downloads, and its name ends in .epub. The invoice is a separate PDF file.
  3. Keep the EPUB file as it is. There is no need to unzip or rename it.

Amazon Kindle

  1. Open Amazon Send to Kindle using the link below. Sign in with the same Amazon account you use on your Kindle or in the Kindle app.
  2. Select the downloaded EPUB file and send it to your Kindle library. If you see an option to add the file to your library, leave it selected.
  3. Connect your Kindle to Wi-Fi. Open the library and sync it if needed. If the book does not appear straight away, give Amazon a moment to process it and check whether your library is filtered to downloaded titles.
  4. Amazon prepares the file for Kindle. Copying the EPUB directly over USB does not replace Send to Kindle. Some older devices no longer support online delivery.

Tolino

  1. Open the tolino Webreader using the link below and sign in with your account for your tolino bookseller.
  2. Open My Books. Use the cloud or upload icon to select the EPUB file, then wait for the book to appear in the Webreader.
  3. Connect your Tolino to Wi-Fi and use the same bookseller account on it. Sync the library. Tap the book to download it to the device and start reading.
  4. You can also copy an EPUB over USB to supported Tolino models. The file is then stored on that device. Upload it to the tolino cloud if you want to sync it across devices.

iPhone and iPad with Apple Books

  1. Download the EPUB to your iPhone or iPad. Open the Files app and look in Downloads. Depending on your settings, Downloads may be in iCloud Drive or on your device.
  2. Tap the EPUB. If it opens in a preview, tap Share and choose Books. Look under More if needed, or install Apple's Books app from the App Store.
  3. Open the Books app. Find the imported book in Library.

Android

  1. Install a reading app that can import EPUB files, such as Google Play Books.
  2. Download the EPUB and open Files or Downloads. Select the EPUB and tap Open with, then choose your reading app. Menu names may vary by device.
  3. In Google Play Books, the option may be called Upload to Play Books. In the app, go to Library and look under Uploads. To keep the file on your device only, choose an EPUB app with local file import.

Windows and macOS

  1. Download the EPUB to your computer and open the Downloads folder. On Windows you can use Calibre. Add the file to Calibre, select the book and choose View.
  2. On a Mac, open the Books app. Choose File > Import and select the EPUB. You can also drag the file into your Books library.
  3. For USB transfer, you need a data cable and a reading device that supports both EPUB and transfer over USB. Connect the device and confirm the connection on the device if prompted.
  4. Use File Explorer or Finder to copy the EPUB into the book folder specified by the manufacturer. If your model needs a transfer app, follow the instructions for that model. Safely eject the device after copying, then open its library.

If the book is missing

  1. First check that the download finished and that the file ends in .epub.
  2. On Kindle or Tolino, check the account, internet connection and sync status. If the device only charges when you plug it in, try a USB data cable.
  3. If you still need help, use the form below and include your order number, device model and any error message. Keep your sign-in details private.
